6 Reasons to Book DIY Wedding Flowers Before the Summer Rush.

Due to COVID, there is a higher demand for flowers and less being shipped in from overseas.  Weather disruptions, less large farms selling directly to designers, and labor shortages are all contributing to this issue.  Florists who usually order from wholesalers are now competing for local blooms. Last minute U-Pick and DIY buckets are going to be harder to find.

Due to COVID disruptions, many weddings from the last two years are being rescheduled for 2022.  The majority of weddings are booked between May and October, so you are competing with other events for vendors like venues, photographers, florists, farmers and caterers who can only do a limited number of events per weekend.  Many vendors are already booking up a year in advance.

Last year, white roses were particularly difficult to find in late summer.  Local florists were scrambling to find wedding colors locally as wholesalers couldn’t fill orders.  Farmers can plan now to plant your flowers for next year. Farmers are ordering seeds and planning for next year’s crops now.  Do you want blush and white in June?  Do you want burgundy in August?  So does every other bride.  Don’t wait to let your vendor know to reserve your flowers in advance.

DIY couples need a plan for how many flowers they need and what colors they want.  A list of each item being made and a flower recipe for each makes your day of designing less stressful and more fun.  Farmers can help you with that plan.

There is a network of small flower farms and florists who buy local in Whatcom County.  If you book early with a farmer or florist, they will be planning for and sourcing your flowers weeks in advance of your wedding, leaving you free from the stress of where to get your flowers.

Supplies like vases, glue, florist tape and floral foam are hard to find.  We can order in large quantities in advance from reliable sources.  This past year, local vase suppliers like Dollar Tree have been out of vases.  Their local warehouses are out as well.  Don’t plan to buy your supplies the week of your wedding.
